The Brilliance Of 4 Past Midnight
Formed 1989
Started off as a straight forward punk band, released our first demo cassette in 1990 titled pain for profit, this demo was sent out to various fanzines for review, reviews were pretty positive, 1991 we recorded our 2nd demo cassette titled secrets of society, again favorable reviews followed,
1993 3rd demo cassette Power and Greed
1994 our first album Midnight Escapades, cassette only release, totally diy
Our first Vinyl single was also released the same year, Get a life or fuck off (one by one recs France)
1995 another single followed on weird records UK The fears we hide ep
1998 say the release of Oh no it's 4pm again CD album which gannered mixed reviews
Switch to 2003, we released the self released Punkology CD album which featured various songs taken from various earlier releases, This CD album sold really well, We toured the UK for 2 weeks this year and gigs we're mostly good
2004 we hit the recording studio for our most ambitious album to date Trials and Tribulations, which saw the band really showing what they were capable of, with songs 4pm Crew, Abused, so fragile quickly becoming fan favourites, this release was a co release, stp records, Punk shit records, weird records, and USA release on SOS recs, at this time Stu Taylor had took an interest in the band, he was who set up our 2003 tour around the UK,
Later in 2006 we travelled to the USA to play the ill-fated SOS RECORD festival which turned into a riot (long story)
2009 line up changes had happened and another new album was released, Guilty As Charged, on Stp records, SOS recs usa
Again we ventured to the east coast usa for our first tour with florida band The Angst
From late 2009 to 2012 there was a hiatus
2012 we returned, with more line up changes
2013 life on the inside was released on STP recs UK to wide a claim, this saw the bands sound starting to really mature, more well thought out songs and better structures and darker tones, and the overall delivery was to a higher standard, songs like Broken, Hollie, justified, proved that the band were starting to move away from the early 80s sound
Fast forward to 2017, Battle Scars and Broken Hearts was released, by this time it was clear that the band had ditched the early sound to a more powerful Melodic driving sound.
2017 saw the band make a drastic change, not just in the music, but also the look of the band changed, aiming for a more Gothic brash styled attire, singer Peter McCartney started to form his new alter ego - The reinventer of Brilliance, and later becoming The King Of Brilliance, this persona, at first wasn't received well with the staunch punk crowd, but Peter persevered and in time started to win people over with the new look,
2018 saw Peter leave the drum stool behind as a drummer a new drummer was introduced, and Peter became solely the lead singer
More line up changes followed, and by 2023 additions Paul Lead Guitar and Martin Bass Guitar and Martin Drums
Peter and Fred Stevenson by this time the remaining originals
Fast forward to 2026 and they are about to release another new record which sees them taking a more Gothic style route with the music,, while still keeping some of the punk elements in place
So all these years on, all the ups and downs, still here.
